FPL Live Points: Track Every Player's Score as It Happens

TL;DR — The official FPL app is slow to update during live matches and doesn't show bonus points until processing is complete. LiveFPL shows your team's live points — including predicted bonus — as every match is played. See your live points now →

    Why FPL Live Points Matter

During a Premier League match day, the official FPL app is frustratingly limited. Points update slowly, bonus points are hidden until hours after the final whistle, and your bench players' scores only matter if an auto-sub triggers — which you can't see in real time either.

FPL live points give you the full picture while matches are still being played:

    • Every goal, assist, clean sheet, and card reflected in your score within seconds
    • Predicted bonus points shown for every player based on real-time BPS data
    • Your total gameweek score updated continuously, not after processing
    • Bench and auto-sub scenarios visible so you know if that injured starter is about to be replaced

This isn't just for the obsessive refreshers. Knowing your live points helps you make better decisions — particularly around captaincy in Double Gameweeks and understanding whether your transfers actually paid off.

    How FPL Points Are Scored

Every FPL action has a fixed point value. Here's the complete scoring system:

    Attacking Points

    Action GK DEF MID FWD
    Goal scored 10 6 5 4
    Assist 3 3 3 3
    Penalty saved 5
    Penalty missed -2 -2 -2 -2

    Defensive Points

    Action GK DEF MID FWD
    Clean sheet 4 4 1
    Every 2 goals conceded -1 -1
    Every 3 saves (GK) 1

    General Points

    Action Points
Playing up to 60 mins 1
    Playing 60+ mins 2
    Yellow card -1
    Red card -3
    Own goal -2
    Bonus points 1, 2, or 3

Bonus points are the wildcard — they're awarded after each match based on the Bonus Points System (BPS) and can turn a mediocre return into a great one. A defender with a clean sheet and 3 bonus gets 9 points from a 0-0 draw.

How to See Your FPL Live Points

LiveFPL shows your team's live points with no registration:

    1. Go to livefpl.com/rank
    2. Enter your FPL Team ID
    3. Your starting XI and bench are shown with live points for each player — including predicted bonus

Your FPL Team ID is the number in the URL when you visit your team on the official site (e.g. fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/12345 → your ID is 12345).

    What You'll See

    • Each player's live score — updated as events happen during matches
    • Predicted bonus — shown in brackets next to the player's score (e.g. 6 (+3) means 6 confirmed points plus 3 predicted bonus)
    • Captain points — doubled automatically so you see the real impact
    • Bench players — their scores are shown so you can track auto-sub potential
    • Total gameweek score — your full projected total at the top
    • Live rank — your estimated overall rank based on your current score

    Live Points vs Official Points

The official FPL site processes scores in stages:

    1. During matches — basic points (goals, assists, minutes) update with some delay
    2. After all matches on a day — bonus points are calculated and added
    3. Overnight processing — auto-subs, rank, and final scores are confirmed

LiveFPL skips the wait by calculating everything in real time:

    Official FPL LiveFPL
    Goal/assist points Delayed minutes Seconds
Clean sheet points After match ends Live (removed if goal conceded)
Bonus points Hours after final match Predicted from live BPS
Auto-sub visibility After overnight processing Shown during matches
    Captain doubling Yes Yes
Total score Partial until processing Complete projection

    Understanding Predicted Bonus Points

The biggest gap between live points and official points is bonus. The Bonus Points System tracks dozens of on-pitch actions to determine which three players in each match earn 3, 2, and 1 extra points.

During live matches, LiveFPL calculates each player's BPS score in real time and predicts who will get bonus. You can see the full breakdown on the Bonus Points page — including live BPS rankings for every match.

Predicted bonus is accurate the vast majority of the time, but it can shift late in a match. A yellow card (-3 BPS) or a big chance missed (-3 BPS) in stoppage time can knock a player out of the bonus places entirely.

    How Auto-Subs Work in FPL

FPL's auto-sub system automatically replaces a player who didn't play (0 minutes) with the highest-priority bench player who did. The substitution order follows your bench order (1st, 2nd, 3rd sub), with the constraint that your formation must remain valid (at least 1 GK, 3 DEF, 2 MID, 1 FWD).

LiveFPL shows you potential auto-subs during live matches. If your starting defender gets injured and is subbed off before 1 minute, you'll see your first bench player's points automatically included in your projected total.

    This is particularly useful when:

    • A player is flagged as doubtful pre-match and you want to see if they start
    • Late team news reveals a benching — you can immediately see who comes in
    • You're deciding whether a hit is worth taking before the deadline

Making the Most of Live Points Data

    During Matches

    Check your live points to:

    • See if your captain choice is paying off (especially useful in DGWs)
    • Track clean sheet survival — if your defensive double-up is on for a clean sheet, you know exactly how many points are at stake
    • Monitor bonus battles — sometimes 1 BPS separates 3 bonus from zero

    After Match Days

Use live points to evaluate your decisions before the official update:

    • Did your transfer target outscore the player you sold?
    • How much did bonus points contribute to your total?
    • Would a different captain have been better?

    Planning Ahead

Your live points across multiple gameweeks reveal patterns:

    • Which players consistently deliver bonus on top of their base points?
    • Are your defenders in the right teams for clean sheet potential?
    • Is your captaincy strategy working — are you picking the right weeks to back the right players?

    Frequently Asked Questions

When do FPL points update during matches?

FPL's official site updates points periodically during matches, but with noticeable delays. Goals and assists can take several minutes to appear. Bonus points aren't shown at all until after the day's matches are processed. LiveFPL updates within seconds of each match event.

Why are my FPL points different from what I expected?

The most common reasons: bonus points haven't been added yet (check live bonus), a clean sheet was lost to a late goal, your captain didn't play so the vice-captain armband hasn't transferred yet (this happens during processing), or an auto-sub hasn't been applied yet.

    How do captain points work?

Your captain's points are doubled. Your vice-captain only gets doubled points if the captain plays 0 minutes (doesn't appear on the pitch at all). If your captain plays even 1 minute, they keep the armband regardless of being subbed off early. LiveFPL shows captain points already doubled in your live total.

Can I see other managers' live points?

Yes. LiveFPL shows live points for every manager in your mini-leagues. Enter your FPL Team ID at livefpl.com/rank and you'll see live standings for all your leagues, including each manager's projected total.

What's the maximum possible FPL points in a gameweek?

There's no fixed theoretical maximum, but the highest individual gameweek scores in FPL history are typically 140-160 points. In a regular gameweek, a great score is 80+. In a Double Gameweek, 100+ is a strong result. Your live points let you see where you stand relative to these benchmarks in real time.
